1897: It's Time for Women to Unite

Dear women of the nation,
My name is Millicent Fawcett. I'm here to bring to you the most important of news.
Over the recent years,
Have you ever wondered why you're can teach boys that vote yet you can't vote yourself?
Have you ever wondered why you employ men that vote yet you yourself can't? How can you feel any sense of superiority when your employees are the ones that are deciding on who is guiding the country but not you.
It is time to stand up to this injustice!
Sisters all over Britain, unite. It is time for us to gain what is rightfully ours. It is time for us to finally gain suffrage. Join National Union of Women's Suffrage and become the part of the movement to empower women.
Please contact me, Millicent Fawcett for more information.

1818: The First Warning from General Ned Ludd

Dear women in the year 1898,
We are the Luddites from the year 1810. We are here to urge you against this absurd movement. A woman voting is unheard of and should stay that way. What do you know about voting? What do you know about the government? You should stay at home where you belong and stop day dreaming. You should not try anything against the government because they will use violence if they have to and weak women like you won’t be able to handle it.

1913: The Warning to the Women's Social and Political Union

Dear ladies of Great Britain,
I beg of you to stop your violent actions. I have formed the National Union of Women's Suffrage to gain suffrage through peaceful negotiations and promotion but your new organization is pushing our movement too far. I suggest that the Women's Social and Political Union stop their violent behavior immediately. I know that your organization started up as a peaceful organization. However, your recent actions, such as interrupting a political meeting in Manchester to ask two Liberal politicians (Winston Churchill and Sir Edward Grey) if they believed women should have the right to vote and then shouting at the said politicians is not acceptable. Yes, I’m talking to you, Christabel Pankhurst and Annie Kenney. I suggest you to stop destroying public property, stop burning down churches, stop vandalizing Oxford Street, stop chaining yourself to the Buckingham Palace and statues and hurting police officers. Pay your taxes and stop attacking politicians. This is getting you nowhere. You are only hurting yourself and sending yourself to prison and what do you do there? You starve yourself to death and let them force feed you. Yes, at first people felt sorry for you but if you are aware of the recent developments of this movement, this starvation is no longer working. Police is just letting you starve yourself till you’re exhausted and then letting you out and you’re throwing yourself back into there. Do you know what they call this? The Cat and Mouse Act with us as the mice and them as the cats. Think of how pathetic we look in their eyes? This is an embarrassment to the whole female population.

I know that the waiting is killing hope and that we are moving very slowly to our goal but this is not going to help. Actions speak louder than words. No matter how educated we sound when we talk, if we act like barbarians, they will treat us like barbarians. Do you want men to take away our right to keep our children because now that we are acting violently, they can’t trust us with educating children? Do you want universities to reject your daughters just because our actions prove us to be uneducated? Please, reconsider your actions and stop this barbaric behavior before we will be left with no rights what so ever.

1819: The Second Warning from General Ned Ludd

Dear women in year 1913,
We are the Luddites with the second warning. As previous rebels, we, the Luddites have experienced the failure of violent rebellion. In 1811, we have tried to oppose the government by sending letters to employers under the name of General Ned Ludd and breaking machines, trying to get our jobs back at the textile factories. As you know, during our time, many machines started to replace man in textile factories, you might think of it as nothing but we lost our jobs and some of us that kept our jobs lost a lot of our salary. But instead of listening to us, the government sentenced anyone who broke machines with death and sent troops to where we were active. In the end, we were all captured, some of us killed, some of us exiled from the country. We had no choice but to stop our protest in 1817 so we suggest that you stop your foolishness before you all get hurt.

August 1914: A Call For Help

Dear Suffragettes,
Our nation, the Great Britain is in need of our help. With the progression of the Great War, it is important that we put our effort into supporting the nation. For the time being, I suggest that all members of the National Union of Women’s Suffrage stop their Suffrage movements, stop their protesting and forget about the dispute we are having with the government. Great Britain needs us, our husbands need us, our children need us and we need to help, because that is our duty, as a citizen of Great Britain. With men all going to war, I suggest that women take on any jobs that were abandoned, help with production and manufacturing. Our national economy must not suffer from this war and our children should not suffer from this dispute. Let men see that we are capable. Let men see that we are as good as them. Let them see that we are able to think wisely and are ready to take part in the voting process, to take part in the government. Also, I suggest that the Women’s Social and Political Union takes the same actions for the benefit of both the country and the organization.
